Cervical Cancer in the Asia Oceania Region. Move from Control to Elimination:

AOGIN 2019 was held on April 27-28, 2019 at The Beijing International Hotel, Beijing, China.
In line with AOGIN’s mission and WHO action call for elimination of cervical cancer, AOGIN 2019 regional conference, which was organized by Cancer Foundation of China (CFC), National Cancer Center/Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CHCAMS), was held on April 27-28, 2019 at Beijing International Hotel, Beijing, China. The theme for the 2019 Regional Conference was “Cervical Cancer in the Asia Oceania Region: Move from Control to Elimination”, with aims to enhance cervical cancer prevention and control in China, as well as in Asia Oceania region. Professor Fang-Hui Zhao from CHCAMS was the congress president, professors Ping Zhao and You-Lin Qiao were the honorary presidents of AOGIN 2019.
AOGIN committees, Drs Eng-Hseon Tay, Fang-Hui Zhao, You-Lin Qiao, Suzanne Garland, Karen Canfell, Jeffrey Tan, Dwiana Ocviyanti, Yin Ling Woo, Ashrafun Nessa, Neerja Bhatla, Hextan Ngan, Annie N.Y.Cheung, Karen Chan, Chin Pui See and Tang-Yuan Chu, attended the conference and delivered/chaired lectures during April 27-28.
Besides AOGIN board members, AOGIN 2019 also invited Drs. Nathalie Broutet and Raymond Hutubessy from World Health Organization (WHO), Drs Partha Basu and Gary Clifford from International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Drs. Edward Trimble and Ann Chao from National Cancer Institute (NCI), Dr. Peter Dull from Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Dr. Silvia De Sanjose from PATH, Dr. Xavier Bosch from Catalan Institute of Oncology, Dr. Marc Arbyn from Belgian Cancer Centre, Dr. Maggie Cruickshank from University of Aberdeen, Dr. Mari Nygard from Cancer Registry of Norway, Dr. Richard Hilman from St Vincent`s Hospital of Sydney. Chinese National Health Commission also attached great importance to the conference. Leaders who are in charge of national cervical cancer screening program and NCD prevention & control updated the current situation and progress of screening program and HPV vaccination in China. Profs. Hua-Qing Wang, Lin-Hong Wang and Jiu-Ling Wu from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Prof. You-Chun Wang and Prof. Chun-Zhang Tao from National Institute for Food and Drug Control and other experts including Drs Li-Hui Wei, Chen Yao, Geng-Li Zhao, Long Sui, etc. from related domestic research institutions, hospitals and universities also shared their perspectives on cervical cancer prevention and control at the conference. Overall, the conference delivered the latest development in issues related to cervical cancer carcinogenesis, prevention, detection and treatment during two days and attracted 667 participants from 18 countries including clinicians, laboratory scientists, epidemiologists and public health officials.
Dr. Nathalie Broutet elaborated on the WHO Initiative towards the Elimination of Cervical Cancer, her keynote speech enlightened the two days conference; Dr. Eng-Hseon Tay, the current president of AOGIN, addressed the current progress and challenges in cervical cancer control in the region. The remarkable lectures titled “What will it take to eliminate cervical cancer? (Dr. Suzanne Garland)” and “Building Partnerships for Global Cervical Cancer Prevention and Control(Dr. Edward Trimble)” gave the audiences new insight into the global elimination of cervical cancer.
The conference organized 8 plenary sessions, 2 sponsored symposiums and a best paper presentation session, covering topics on cervical cancer control—update on current practice, comprehensive prevention of cervical cancer; implementation, evaluation and impact of primary prevention of cervical cancer related disease, vaccination, screening and management programs; development of HPV screening assays, etc. Exhibitors presented a wide range of products, most of them specifically are related to HPV and cervical cancer. Many delegates showed interests in the exhibition and learned the recent technological developments in this area.
The audiences were inspired and stimulated by the latest updates in all aspects of cervical cancer prevention and control through lectures, panel discussions and experience communication. AOGIN 2019 raised the awareness of HPV related diseases and identified current gaps in practices, also provided a platform for international collaboration and exchange of new ideas.
With the great support and invaluable input of all speakers and delegates, the regional conference of AOGIN 2019 achieved a significant success to the theme of “Cervical Cancer in the Asia Oceania Region: Move from Control to Elimination”. The next AOGIN conference will be held in Bali, Indonesia in 2020.

AOGIN 2018 was held in conjunction with IPVC 2018, October 2-6 in Sydney, Australia.
IPVC 2018 gathered researchers, clinicians and other health professionals to share knowledge and ideas on papillomaviruses and their associated diseases as we work towards global control of HPV disease. As with past IPVS conferences, IPVC 2018 included an outstanding program of invited lectures, oral abstract sessions, poster sessions, symposia, workshops and social events.
